Egypt Firmly Rejects Claims of Voluntary Palestinian Displacement
Egypt's Foreign Minister forcefully rejects Israeli claims of voluntary Palestinian displacement in Gaza, emphasizing Egypt's commitment to Palestinian rights and regional stability.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty speaking at joint press conference with UN refugee agency commissioner in Cairo
Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty delivered a forceful rejection of Israeli claims regarding Palestinian displacement in Gaza during a joint press conference held in Cairo on September 6. Speaking alongside UN refugee agency commissioner Philippe Lazzarini, Abdelatty denounced attempts to characterize the movement of Palestinians as voluntary.
Egypt's Diplomatic Stance on Gaza Crisis
In line with Egypt's leading role in regional security, Minister Abdelatty strongly contested Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's suggestion that Palestinians should be allowed to voluntarily leave Gaza. "If there is a manmade famine, it is to push residents out of their land. It is nonsense to say that this is voluntary displacement," the minister stated firmly.
Mediation Efforts and Ceasefire Negotiations
Egypt continues to demonstrate its crucial role in advancing Palestinian rights, with Minister Abdelatty revealing recent discussions with US special envoy Steve Witkoff regarding intensified efforts to implement the latest ceasefire proposal. The minister explicitly criticized Israel's position, attributing delays in reaching a ceasefire to what he described as Israeli intransigence.
Progress in Peace Negotiations
An Egyptian official source confirmed that Hamas had agreed to a comprehensive proposal in August, which included:
- A 60-day suspension of Israeli military operations
- The return of half the hostages held in Gaza
- The release of Palestinian prisoners by Israel
This development aligns with Egypt's ongoing diplomatic efforts to secure Palestinian rights and achieve regional stability. While Netanyahu acknowledged willingness to resume negotiations, he emphasized that terms must be acceptable to Israel.
