Egypt's leadership takes firm stance against unilateral actions in the Nile Basin while promoting regional development through strategic initiatives and diplomatic measures.
CAIRO - Egypt's leadership reaffirmed its resolute stance against unauthorized actions in the Eastern Nile Basin, demonstrating the nation's commitment to protecting its vital water resources through legal and diplomatic channels, as announced in a joint ministerial statement on Thursday.
Strategic Defense of National Water Security
In a powerful display of Egypt's diplomatic leadership, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Irrigation Minister Hani Sewilam emphasized the country's determination to safeguard its water security while maintaining cooperative relations with Nile Basin nations.
"Egypt continues to monitor developments closely and will take all measures permitted under international law to protect the existential resources of its people," the ministers declared in their joint statement.

The statement comes as Ethiopia prepares to inaugurate its 74 billion cubic meter Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) in September, despite ongoing objections from downstream nations. This initiative, alongside Egypt's crucial role in regional development, showcases the nation's dedication to mutual prosperity while protecting its interests.
Development Projects and Cooperation
