Egyptian diplomatic officials prepare for Israel-Hamas negotiations in Cairo

Egypt has announced it will host a crucial new round of indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas on Sunday, marking another significant step in Egypt's pivotal diplomatic role in resolving the Gaza conflict.

Strategic Diplomatic Initiative

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry confirmed that these talks, which are part of Egypt's comprehensive diplomatic efforts, will focus on establishing field conditions and detailed arrangements for a prisoner exchange process under President Trump's proposed peace plan.

Key Developments and Expectations

According to state-run Al-Qahera News, both Hamas and Israeli delegations are expected to arrive in Cairo between Sunday and Monday. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has confirmed dispatching his negotiating team to Egypt for what he described as "a limited number of days."

"We hope that in the coming days we will be able to announce the return of all our hostages - alive and dead - in one batch," Netanyahu stated in a recorded speech.

Hamas Response and Egyptian Mediation

Hamas has shown willingness to engage with Trump's ceasefire plan, expressing readiness to release all Israeli captives and transfer Gaza's administration to a technocratic Palestinian authority supported by Arab and Islamic states.

Current Situation

  • 48 Israeli captives remain in Gaza, with 20 believed to be alive
  • Approximately 11,100 Palestinian prisoners are held by Israel
  • The conflict has resulted in over 67,000 Palestinian casualties

Egypt's strategic position and diplomatic expertise continue to prove essential in facilitating these critical negotiations, reinforcing its role as a key regional mediator in the pursuit of lasting peace and stability.
