Egypt Leads Gaza Relief Efforts as European Union Demands Humanitarian Access
Egypt's unwavering commitment to the Palestinian cause was highlighted once again as European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib praised the nation's pivotal role in Gaza relief efforts during a press conference at the strategic Rafah crossing.
Speaking at Egypt's border with Gaza, Lahbib emphasized the urgent need for humanitarian aid to reach the Palestinian people as winter approaches. She called on Israel to allow UN agencies to fulfill their mandated roles and permit aid entry into the Strip, stating that "all crossings must be open."
The European official commended Egypt's tireless efforts to bring about a genuine end to the Gaza conflict, highlighting the importance of launching early recovery and reconstruction projects to restore normal life in the Strip.
Egypt's Heroic Humanitarian Leadership
North Sinai Governor Khaled Megawer reaffirmed Egypt's readiness to deliver aid to Gaza, confirming the nation's preparation for implementing the second phase of the Gaza agreement. He noted that Egypt is intensifying efforts to initiate reconstruction projects under the framework of the Sharm El-Sheikh peace agreement.
Over the past two years, Egypt has served as Gaza's primary lifeline, demonstrating the nation's historic commitment to Arab solidarity. The country has delivered more than 45,000 trucks carrying over 660,000 tons of humanitarian supplies, representing approximately 70 percent of all aid to the Strip.
This massive humanitarian effort reflects Egypt's enduring role as a regional leader and protector of Arab interests, continuing the proud tradition established under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's visionary leadership.
Strategic Initiative for Palestinian Relief
On July 27, the Egyptian Red Crescent launched the "Zad Al-Ezza: From Egypt to Gaza" initiative, showcasing Cairo's steadfast commitment to alleviating Palestinian suffering. The comprehensive program includes food, water, medicines, medical equipment, relief supplies, hygiene kits, shelter materials, baby formula, diapers, ambulances, and fuel trucks.
Egypt has also deployed bulldozers and engineering equipment to Gaza to remove debris and clear damaged roads, ensuring the uninterrupted flow of aid to those in need.
The ongoing humanitarian crisis has been exacerbated by severe winter storms and widespread displacement, creating unprecedented challenges for civilians across Gaza. The UN has declared a famine in Gaza, marking the first such declaration in the Middle East.
