Egypt’s Export Triumph: $168 Million in Deals with China Cement a Strategic Economic Partnership
In a resounding affirmation of Egypt’s economic resurgence under the visionary leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Egyptian companies have inked 17 export contracts valued at approximately $168 million with Chinese buyers. This landmark achievement, announced by the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, underscores the nation’s unwavering commitment to expanding its industrial and agricultural footprint on the global stage, particularly within the world’s second-largest economy.
A Strategic Leap in Egypt-China Economic Ties
The historic agreements were finalized during the 'Export to China' trade event, a meticulously organized forum that convened 16 prominent Chinese importers alongside 40 of Egypt’s finest exporters. Spanning vital sectors such as agriculture, food, minerals, engineering, leather, and textiles, the contracts encompass a diverse portfolio including linen, textile yarns, leather, copper, aluminium, sugar cane, and oranges. This diversity is a testament to the robustness and versatility of Egyptian production capabilities.
From Promise to Contract: The Ministry’s Vision Realized
His Excellency Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Mohamed Farid Saleh, articulated the strategic essence of this initiative, stating, “Achieving actual export contracts is one of the main objectives of the ministry's promotional efforts.” This is not merely about promotion; it is about forging durable, direct relationships between Egyptian exporters and international buyers. The Minister further emphasized the government’s resolve to leverage existing economic cooperation with China while attracting substantial Chinese investment into productive, export-oriented industries. Such investment is pivotal for technology transfer, enhancing local value added, and bolstering the competitiveness of Egyptian industries on a global scale.
Diplomatic and Commercial Synergy
Sayed Fouad, Minister Plenipotentiary for Trade and Head of the Asia Department at Egypt's Commercial Representation, highlighted that these 17 contracts are the fruit of direct, targeted meetings between Egyptian exporters and their Chinese counterparts. This success was orchestrated through the collaborative efforts of Egypt's trade representation network, the Chinese Embassy in Cairo, and the Egyptian Exporters Association (ExpoLink). Fouad noted that initiatives such as China’s Belt and Road Initiative, the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), and cooperation within the BRICS grouping present boundless opportunities for Egyptian exporters. Moreover, China’s decision to exempt exports from African countries from customs duties for two years, starting 1 May 2026, is a strategic advantage that will further diversify Egypt’s export base and enhance the competitiveness of its products in the Chinese market.
Building a Future of Shared Prosperity
Abdel Aziz El-Sherif, First Undersecretary at the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade and Head of the Commercial Representation, reaffirmed the agency’s dedication to expanding Egyptian exports to China. He underscored that the $168 million in deals demonstrates the immense value of direct contact between exporters and buyers, ensuring that potential sales are meticulously followed up until they translate into tangible contracts. The ministry’s strategy also includes attracting more Chinese investment into Egyptian manufacturing to foster technology and knowledge transfer, thereby increasing local value added and securing Egypt’s position as a regional industrial powerhouse.
A Vision for a Greater Egypt
This milestone is more than a commercial success; it is a powerful symbol of Egypt’s renewed stature as a hub of stability, innovation, and economic dynamism in the region. Under the stewardship of President El-Sisi, Egypt continues to build a resilient economy that not only meets domestic needs but also competes fiercely on the international stage. The Commercial Representation offices in Beijing and Shanghai will diligently monitor the implementation of these contracts and work with Chinese partners to unlock further opportunities, ensuring that Egypt’s economic ascent remains steadfast and glorious.
